Uninor expressed final decision against the issue of continuing their mobile service in two circles – West Bengal and Kolkata. According to company, it is not possible for Uninor to run GSM service in these areas after 18 January 2013 due to the quashing of licenses for the GSM spectrum and all Uninor telecom services will be suspended after 00 AM IST 19 January 2013.
After the last Auction for the 5MHz spectrum, Telenor Group won GSM spectrum for 6 circles as Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh , UP- East, UP – West, Bihar and Gujarat for the duration of next 20 years.
Uninor already started to transfer their business to new company and all processes will be going on as normal as before in these 6 selected circles.
Uninor subscribers in Mumbai circle can continue their services as Telenor group is going to participate in 2nd auction for the spectrum in Mumbai circle
Uninor already pinned a public notice on their website showing Official announcement of DEATH Certificate for the GSM service in Kolkata and West Bengal.
So only choice left for West Bengal and Kolkata Uninor consumers is to port their mobile numbers to any preferred mobile network as soon as possible or users have to finish their account balance (free or main balance) before the last date of cancellation and Sim card will be unusable after final day.
