In response to Supreme Court order, Uninor shutdowns its GSM mobile operation in Mumbai and going to suspend all the telecom services from the date February 16, 2013.
Supreme Court has already issued an order asking Department of Telecommunication (DOT) not to allow the operators (who did not take part in November 2012 auction) to participate in upcoming spectrum auction to be held on March 2013 and also declared no further extension of spectrum license for the operators whose license has been cancelled last year which results an immediate suspension from all the telecom operations.
“The Court has ordered an immediate closure of operations and no temporary license too is available to allow a gradual process. Unfortunately, we have no choice now but to follow the Court’s order and close down our network immediately,” Sigve Brekke, Managing Director of Uninor said in a statement.
Uninor already pinned public notice in Uninor Mumbai website.
After February 16, 2013, Uninor Mumbai customers can contact customer care by dialing a non-Uninor number 09175091750.
Uninor has won 2G licenses in six circles including UP East and West, Maharashtra, Bihar, Gujarat, Jharkhand and AP for next 20 years except Mumbai, Kolkata and West Bengal.
Uninor has already closed all its telecom operations in Kolkata and Mumbai and Company is going to make roaming agreements with other telecom operators to provide seamless connectivity in roaming areas.
