Airtel announced to charge for VoiP calls over 2G & 3G data packs Internet that means Airtel users having 2G or 3G data pack or plans (Limited or Unlimited) activated can not be allowed to make free calls using VoiP services which is normally offerd by popular messaging applications like Skype, Line, Viber etc.
VoiP – short form of ‘Voice over Internet Protocol' is very popular for people leaving in different countries or from remote locations because of its ‘No Standard call charge' benefit for any voice & video calls,. VoiP allows users to make unlimited calls without being charged by standard call rate but as per data charge which means you can use any data pack to make VioP calls for free untill free data valid.
But after the shocking news from Airtel on VoiP calls, Users having limited or unlimited data packs activated on their Airtel Sim will be charged as per stanrad data rate: 3G: 4p/10KB and 2G: 10p/10KB for every VoiP calls for both incoming & outgoing.
No free data charge (using any data plan or pack) will be applicable while making VioP calls (Outgoing) or receiving VoiP calls (Incoming) with Airtel sim.
Messaging services are very popular now-a-days not for only instant messaging but free calls over VoiP which not only saves ‘day-by-day increasing STD/ISD call rates' but also helps you save SMS charges. After restriction on VoiP calls by Airtel, Free VoiP calls facility is going to be limited or no longer be unlimited.
4p/10KB or 10p/10KB is too costly. Airtel both 2G & 3D data packs are very costly. So for people who depend on VoiP calls to stay connected for long time, Airtel is no longer a better alternative. Vodafone & Idea are most probably going to accept same strategy but time will say.
