Cyanogen confirms OTA updates for Oneplus One Global Version devices in India. It’s a sweet surprise for all One users who has imported device from international market but cancellation of OTA updates for indian users who buy or would buy the device from Amazon is still continuing. OnePlus confirmed on its blog that custom-built for Indian OnePlus One users will come in December, 2014 & stable release will be available on February , 2015.
Oneplus doesn’t clarify how Cyanogen will differentiate between ‘Global version’ & ‘Indian version’ for OS as there are no different between both versions for now (“18. What are the differences between international and Indian version? There are no differences.” ).
From Cyanogen confirmation it’s clear that you can get future updates from company if you flash OnePlus One with Global version ROM. Users can do it as flashing or rooting One will not void warranty.
Cyanogen statement,“…..To clarify misinformation out there, the OnePlus One will get OTA firmware updates for all global devices, including global devices for our users in India….”
It’s ‘Global devices’ ! Indian version of OnePlus One will get frequently updates from Cyanogen, If it is flashed with Global version ROM as for now but what if Cyanogen starts filtering devices for future updates ! (Since Cyanogen has official deal with MicroMax but no deal with OnePlus in India yet ! )
And, If upcoming Cyanogen OS (ROM) for ‘OnePlus One Global version’ adds some code to block future updates (here manually flash) for ‘OnePlus One Indian version’ which will not endanger One Indian users but will also force to them downgrade (or upgrade) to Custom-built from OnePlus ?
Problem is OnePlus has confirmed that they will support custom-built OS for 2 years from the date OnePlus releases custom-built for Indian users but what if a users decides to choose Global version ROM.
OnePlus has confirmed that future updates will come often & users can manually flash device to get latest features. OnePlus One service centers will update version for you at free of cost.
OnePlus One is a high-end but affordable smartphone till date. As “Flashing and rooting does not void warranty”, You can go for OnePlus One Indian version without any hesitation but OS choice is personal and, prepare for tricky ROM flashing !
