Supreme Court ordered deadline for 2G Spectrum Auction

Supreme Court Monday ordered a deadline to Indian Government Telecom sector to complete the auction for telecommunication spectrum by the January 11,2013.

This is the 3rd extension for spectrum auction given by Supreme Court which brings a big relief for the telecom company whose license was cancelled by Supreme Court on 2nd Feb 2012.

Mobile communications for company like Telenor ASA and Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited was going to suspend by the end Sept 7, 2012 but now they can run until Jan 18,2012.

DOT is going to issue for inviting the application  for spectrum bid  on 28th October and  last date for submission the application 19th October, 2012.

Final List of bidders will be published on 6th November 2012.

Mock Auction will be conducted from 7th Nov to 8th Nov,2012.

Online Auction(e-auction) for 1800Mhz band will start on 12th Nov 2012.

After 2 days from the close of the e-auction of 1800MHz Band, e-auction for 800Mhz band will start.

The Indian market for telecom services is one of the fastest growing and second largest network in the world. The growth has been driven by the rapid adoption of 2G mobile services in the country,The penetration of mobile services stood at 76.99% at the end of June 2012, while the year on-year growth in mobile subscribers in the last one year was 9.67%.

Auction of Spectrum for 1800MHz Band
• Block size shall be of 1.25MHz (Paired).
• A minimum of 8 blocks each of 1.25MHz (10 MHz) will be put to auction inall Service Areas. In addition, a provision be made for spectrum up to 3 blocks each of 1.25MHz(3.75MHz)
• The existing operators will be allowed to take maximum two blocks of 1.25MHz each in each service area.
• A bidder who is a New Entrant in a particular Service Area will be required to bid for a minimum of 4 blocks each of 1.25MHz in each service area.
• The New Entrant bidder will be allowed to bid for one additional blocks of 1.25MHz in each service area

Auction of Spectrum for 800MHz Band
• Block size shall be of 1.25MHz (Paired).
• 3 blocks each of 1.25MHz (3.75MHz), be put to auction. In addition, a provision be made for spectrum of one block of 1.25MHz

• A bidder who is a New Entrant in a particular Service Area will be required to bid for a minimum of 2 blocks each of 1.25MHz in each
•The New Entrant bidder will be allowed to bid for one additional block of 1.25MHz in each service area.

The allocation of blocks would depend on the categorization of the respective bidders (as New Entrant or as an Existing Telecom Service Provider) for each of the 22 Service Areas.
