No More Telecom Blackout days:Call and SMS with normal charge

Good news for All India mobile subscribers, Telecom operators won't charge extrafor call and SMSon the special occasional day like Diwali, New Year, Independence Day etc.

Indian Telecom controller authority TRAI today issued a direction to all Telecom Operators ordering not to charge customers on calls or SMSes beyond their existing tariff plans on ‘blackout days‘.

TRAI issued this Direction to enhance transparency in the matter of charging on blackout days.

Blackout days’ refers to the days on which the service providers do not allow free or concessional voice calls/ SMS offered by them under any plan/ package.

According to TRAI “The number of blackout days shall not exceed five in a calendar year and no alteration in any such date is allowed after the package is subscribed by the consumer

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Directions:

  • The charges for calls or SMSs on ‘blackout’ days shall not exceed the rate in the tariff plan in which the consumer is enrolled;

  • Consumers shall be given intimation prior to start of every blackout day and the date/ occasion of the blackout day shall also be intimated;

  • List of blackout days applicable for the calendar year shall be displayed on the website of service providers, before start of every calendar year and shall be published, service area wise, along with the tariff plans of the service provider, every six months;

    I m tata docomo consumer,
    I have activated 600 local minutes for 28 days, but I can’t got benefit on 31 Dec to 1 Jan. I have changed for 28 day, during the balack out days I cant use my 600 minutes & my 2 ll be count during black out days, I didn’t recharge in my main account because I have 600 local minutes, but its useless during 31 Dec to 1 Jan. Why they don’t allow me to use my benefit ? I have paid money for 28 days not for 26 days.

    1. please made a written complaint to or issue a legal notice for deficiency of service and claim up to Rs.1,00,000/- for mental agony.
