Supreme Court has asked Department of telecommunication (DOT) not to allow telecom operators to take part in upcoming spectrum auction to be held on March 2013, whose license has been cancelled on February 2, 2012. A very bad news for the telecom operators.
Supreme Court had earlier given an order allowing the mobile operators to continue mobile service till March 11, 2013 which is the starting date of 2nd spectrum auction event and operators were expected to take part in upcoming event so they can purchase the required spectrum for further operation continuation.
Now a bench of Supreme Court Justice ordered not to allow those operators whose license has been cancelled and did not participate in the auction organized dated on November 12th, 13th and other bidders who did participate in November Auction too, can't be allowed to join the upcoming event when there are successful bidders available.
Spectrum auction organized by DOT help on November 2012 was a biggest flop due to the lack of sufficient bidders. Maximum operators did not take part in last auction showing the reason of high base price of telecom spectrum.
DOT is going to organize another auction event in march 2013 and Government has already cut the reserve price of 2G spectrum by 30 per cent and CDMA spectrum by 50 per cent.
